After completing an Arts Degree at ANU, Bill worked at Commins Hendriks Junee office from 1979 till 1983 and completed his Law degree by correspondence.  In 1984, he and his wife Gabrielle moved to Mt Isa where he worked for the Aboriginal Legal Aid Commission.  They returned home and Bill became a Partner of Commins Hendriks in 1985.  Since that time, he has been actively involved in developing and expanding the rural practice of Commins Hendriks.  Bill is a regular contributor to newspaper and journals on rural legal issues.  Bill is a lobbyist for change and improvement in laws that effect farmers and rural communities.
